今日はニーナ先生の年末年始の思い出をシェアしますね！今回は英語を読めるかなチャレンジ！ぜひ英語で読んでみてね♪理解できるかな？

As we reach the end of the first month of the New Year and onwards, it’s nice to look back and think on how you started the New Year. Me, well, I started it in Shizuoka, at the Izu Peninsula! So, here’s a lookback on how I started 2026!
富士吉田校のNinaです！新年が始まって、あっという間に最初の１ヶ月が終わろうとしていますね。この時期になると、「今年はどんなスタートをきったかな？」と振り返りたくなります。私の場合、2026年の始まりは静岡県の伊豆半島で迎えました。ということで今回は、私の2026年のスタートを少し振り返ってみたいと思います。
My sister and I collected our friends from Kawasaki and went on a long, 4-hour drive down to the furthest point in Izu. We were renting a small house in Kawazu, nearby the historical town of Shimoda, that is famous for its beautiful cherry blossom alleyways. Of course, we went in the middle of Winter, so there were no cherry blossoms, haha.
姉と私は川崎に住む友人たちを迎えに行き、伊豆半島の最南端を目指して、約4時間のドライブしました。滞在したのは河津にある小さな一軒家。河津は下田の近くで、美しい桜並木で有名な歴史ある町です。とはいえ、訪れたのは真冬。もちろんまだ桜は咲いていませんでした(笑)
Nonetheless, between the clear skies, azure sea, and exotic plants, it would be safe to wonder whether were truly experiencing a cold Winter or having the time of our life on some tropical island.
それでも澄み切った青空、エメラルドブルーの海、そして南国のような植物たちに囲まれていると、「本当に冬を過ごしているの？」それとも「どこか南の島で最高の時間を過ごしているの？」と、そんな風に錯覚してしまうほどでした。
The first day of our arrival was actually mostly spent on preparing for the New Years; decorating, cooking, and planning out what we could explore in the following days. And, though our decor may be Christmas themed, we were very much in a New Year’s Eve mood.
伊豆に到着した初日は、そのほとんどを年越しの準備に費やしました。部屋をデコレーションしたり、料理をしたり、そしてこれから数日間でどこを観光するかをみんなで相談したりしました。飾りつけは少しクリスマスっぽい雰囲気もありますが、気分はしっかり大晦日。新しい年を迎えるワクワク感に包まれていました。
In Ukraine, there are many families that celebrate New Year’s Eve very similarly to Christmas, by giving presents and merrymaking. So, between giving presents to each one of us FROM each one of us, we ended up with a massive present pile under the New Year’s Christmas Tree.
実はウクライナでは、大晦日をクリスマスにようにお祝いをする家庭がたくさんあります。プレゼントを贈り合い、にぎやかに過ごすのが定番なんです。今回もみんなが一人ひとりにプレゼントを用意していたので、ニューイヤー・クリスマスツリーの下には、びっくりするほどたくさんのプレゼントが積み上がりました。
The next day, on the 31st, after we finished preparing, we decided to go down to Shimoda and explore it properly. We took a short walk around the historical area and found an oden stand that was surprisingly open on New Year’s Eve. That led to us having a wonderful pre-dinner snack at twilight, right next to the crashing waves of the pier as the first stars started appearing. The wind was incredibly cold, but the soup and variety of ingredients warmed us to the extent where we did not care – it simply felt enchanting.
その翌日の31日は準備を一通り終えたあと、下田まで足をのばして、街をゆっくり散策することにしました。歴史あるエリアを少し歩いていると、大晦日にも関わらず営業しているおでん屋台を発見。それがきっかけで、夕暮れ時に桟橋に打ち寄せる波の音を聞きながら、星がすこしずつ空に浮かび始める時間帯に、夕飯前の素敵なおやつ時間を楽しむことになりました。風は驚くほど冷たかったのですが、アツアツのおでんスープと、いろいろな具材のおかげで、体はすっかり温まり、寒さなんて気にならないほどになりました。ただただ、魔法のような素敵な時間でした。
Then, of course, came the New Year! We had set the table, everything ready, and the cat enjoying its warm spot right under the heater. Turned on some music and spent the majority of the time talking, eating, and playing boardgames. Honestly, it’s hard to explain just how quickly time passed and we all only checked the time about 5 minutes before midnight. Good food and company can do that to you, haha!
そしていよいよ新年の瞬間がやってきました。テーブルの準備は万端。友人の飼っている猫は、ヒーターの真下にある一番温かい特等席で、すっかりくつろぎモードでした。音楽を流しながらお話をして、食事をして、ボードゲームをして．．．そんな風に過ごしているうちに、あっという間に時間が過ぎていきました。気づけば午前0時の5分前。おいしい料理と、心地よい仲間たちと一緒にいると、時間はあっという間に過ぎてしまうものですね(笑)
On January 1st, we went to sleep around 7AM. So, it’s no surprise that we woke up around 3PM! But we still had a multitude of things we had planned to do to welcome in the New Year, so off we went, taking a drive along the coast. Now, we had initially planned to go to hatsumode in the morning, but by the time we got there, the stands were all closed and the majority of Shirahama shrine was closed to visitors.
1月1日、私たちは朝の7時頃に寝たので、起きたのはなんと午後3時でした。まあ、そうねるよね．．．という感じです(笑)それでも新年を迎えるにあたって、いくつかやりたいことを計画していたので、気を取り直して海沿いをドライブすることにしました。本当は朝のうちに初詣に行く予定だったのですが、到着した頃には屋台はすでに全てしまっていて、白浜神社もほとんどの場所が参拝できない状況でした。
So, we paid our respects, prayed for the new year, took a few photos and went down to Shirahama Beach to light some sparklers. It was so cold on the beach, but the excitement of seeing sparklers go off in our hands was beyond words! We must have spent at least 2 hours lighting them up (as me and my sister may have bought way too many fireworks for just 4 people haha)!
その後、お参りをして新年のお願いごとをし、写真を何枚か撮ってから、白浜ビーチへ移動して手持ち花火をしました。海辺はとても寒かったのですが、手の中で花火がパチパチとはじける瞬間は、言葉にできないほどワクワクしました。気づけば、少なくとも2時間は花火をしていたと思います。私と姉が、4人分よりも明らかに多すぎる量の花火を買ってしまったようです…！(笑)
The next day it was actually the birthday of one of the friends with us. We woke early in the morning, redid the decorations from a Christmas theme to a Birthday theme and bought a cake! We then went to a proper hatsumode at Shirahama shrine, this time including everything – prayers, omikuji, emma, and going to the seaside torii. Now, not to brag, but I am very proud of the fact that this in my 3rd year in a row of pulling a Daikichi fortune on hatsumode. I may not be biggest believer in mystical things, but that certainly feels like more than a coincidence!
翌日は、一緒に来ていた友人の誕生日でした。朝早く起きて、部屋の飾りつけをクリスマス仕様からバーズデー仕様に替え、ケーキも用意しました。その後、改めて白浜神社に初詣に。今回はきちんとお参りをして、おみくじを引き、絵馬を書き、海に面した鳥居まで足を運びました。自慢するわけではありませんが、なんと初詣で引いたおみくじは、これで3年連続の「大吉」！
占いやスピリチュアルを強く信じるタイプではないのですが、さすがに偶然とは思えないような気がしました。
The wind was incredibly strong this close to the open ocean, but the view was simply incredible! The seaside torii was somewhat difficult to get to, but I can safely say, these may be some of my favorite pictures and views from this day! We then walked along the beach to get to the car park, though some of us (namely, my sister) actually went and walked THROUGH the water! According to her, it was the perfect temperature to swim in, haha!
広大な海に近い場所だったので風はとても強かったのですが、景色は本当に素晴らしかったです。海に面した鳥居に行くのは少し大変でしたが、この日の写真や景色の中でも、特にお気に入りのひとつになりました。その後、駐車場に戻るために海沿いを歩いたのですが、何と私たちの中のひとり(何を隠そう、私の姉です）は、海の中を歩いて戻っていました(笑)
本人曰く、「泳ぐのにちょうどいい温度だった」そうです。
The rest of the day was spent playing board games and just having a good time, relaxing! The 3rd of January was our final full day in Izu, so we decided to revisit Shimoda proper and went up the ropeway to the Aizendo temple. The view from the ropeway was beyond stunning – with the weather so clear too, we could see the horizon and ocean in the most beautiful hues of blue.
その後は、ボードゲームをしたり、のんびり過ごしたりと、リラックスした時間を楽しみました。
1月3日は伊豆で過ごす最後の一日だったので、再び下田の街へ行き、ロープウェイに乗って愛染堂まで足を運びました。ロープウェイからの景色は息をのむほど美しく、天気もとてもよかったので、水平線までくっきりと見え、海と空が様々な美しい青色に染まっていました。
We took a good, long walk around the area there, enjoying the surprisingly blooming herb garden and the Jizo statues of the local tochigami. I also may have accidentally almost broken a vending machine, but it’s okay because one of the monks from the temple helped us fix it! All’s well that ends well, even if I was panicking for 30 minutes about it!
その後は周辺をゆっくりと長い時間散策し、思いがけず花が咲いていたハーブガーデンや、土地神を祀った地蔵尊などを楽しみました。実はその途中で、私がうっかり自動販売機を壊しかけてしまうというハプニングもあったのですが、お寺のお坊さんが手伝ってくださり、無事に直すことができました。30分ほど大慌てでしたが(笑)、終わりよければすべてよし、ですね！
And with that, our final evening in Izu was spent much like all the other days – with a twilight drive along the amazing coastline, boardgames, and huddling around a heater. It was an incredible trip and more fun than anything I had imagined. One thing is for sure – I am going to go back there and explore even more, see all the things I missed out on because of the season, and definitely go swim! However, for now, I will look at the photos we took and simply remember that a year is only as good as the way you started it! My hope for everyone in the New Year is to seize the opportunities yourself and, even if you didn’t pull Daikichi, make your own luck and fortune!
こうして伊豆で過ごす最後の夜も、これまでと同じように穏やかに過ぎていきました。夕暮れの海岸線をドライブし、ボードゲームを楽しみ、暖房の周りに集まってのんびり過ごす時間。想像していた以上に美しく、心に残る旅になりました。この旅から思った確かなことは、また必ずここに戻り、季節の関係で今回いけなかった場所に行き、次は思いっきり泳ぎたいということです！
それまでは、撮った写真を見返しながら、「1年はどんなスタートを切ったかで決まるんだな」ということを思い出していきたいです。
今年はみなさんがチャンスを自分の手で掴み、たとえおみくじで大吉を引けなくても、自分の力で運や幸運を切り開いていけますように！！
