Hello everyone! Nina from JES Fujiyoshida here!
It’s been raining fairly often recently in Fujiyoshida, but that only means that everything is getting steadily greener! I hope that everyone is experiencing pleasant Spring weather this trial class season!
皆さんこんにちは！JES富士吉田校のNinaです！
最近の富士吉田は雨の日が多いですが、その分景色がだんだん緑豊かになってきていますね！体験レッスンのこの季節、みなさんも気持ちの良い春の気候を楽しめているといいなと思います！
Since moving to Japan, I’ve found it very peculiar that the Spring Equinox (along with the Autumnal Equinox) are both Red Days in the calendar. Though my culture is also heavily tied to the changing of the seasons, such days aren’t considered public holidays in Ukraine. It was very interesting to me!
That’s why we decided to go and investigate this phenomenon in Tokyo!
日本に来てから、春分の日（そして秋分の日も）が祝日になっていることがとても不思議に思っていました。私の出身であるウクライナでも季節の移り変わりはとても大切にされていますが、このような日は祝日にはならないので、とても興味深く感じました！
今回はその理由を調べに東京へ行ってきました！！！
Just joking. It was my sister’s birthday, so we decided to go see some of her favorite sights in Tokyo to celebrate. Despite having been to both, my sister prefers Tokyo Tower over Tokyo Skytree and for that is the building that just screams “Tokyo!”, so we went to see it at night!
…というのは冗談で(笑)、実は姉の誕生日だったので、そのお祝いに東京で姉の好きな場所を巡ることにしました。どちらも行ったことはあったのですが、姉は東京スカイツリーよりも東京タワーの方が好きなようで、「これぞ東京！」という感じがすることから、夜に東京タワーを見に行ってきました！
Sometimes, the story starts with its ending, but that doesn’t mean the start and the middle weren’t important! Our start of the day was a lovely breakfast outside with our friends in their yard, where they served a homemade cake! We had lunch in the center of Tokyo, at an amazing Mexican Food restaurant.
物語というものは結末が重要視されがちですが、だからと言って物語の始まりや中盤が大切ではないというわけではありません！2日目のスタートは、友人の家での庭での素敵な朝食から始まりました。手作りのケーキを振舞ってもらい、とても幸せな時間でした。その後は都内の中心部で美味しいメキシコ料理のお店でランチしました。
There, we actually met a waiter from Fujiyoshida of all places! They even recognized the Fujiyoshida branch’s location and asked if I was a teacher there! The world can be so small, even in a city of 12 million people! After lunch, we went to TeamLabs Tokyo Borderless in Azabudai Hills.
そこではなんと、富士吉田市出身の店員さんに出会ったのです！！しかも文理学院富士吉田校の場所も覚えていて、講師をしているのかどうかも聞かれました！1200万人が暮らす大都市の中でも、世界はこんなにも狭いんだなと感じました。ランチの後は、麻布台ヒルズのチームラボに行ってきました。
The area around TeamLabs was incredibly beautiful too, but nothing can compare to the amazing visuals and interactive art offered by TeamLabs themselves. We got lost multiple times and ended up in the same rooms, which truly gave it the feeling of a “borderless maze”.
チームラボ周辺もとても美しかったのですが、やはりチームラボの映像美や体験型アートは圧巻でした。何度も迷っては同じ部屋に戻ってきてしまい、「境界のない迷路」というコンセプトをまさに体感できました。
After we came out was when we saw Tokyo Tower. Going through areas of Tokyo with such different aesthetics and microcultures truly gave it the feeling of being a multicultural megapolis. When it comes to the modern world, it feels like communication is lacking in many places despite how globally oriented our societies are. It’s times like these that make me feel that it would be so much easier to live if we could all communicate and understand each other better.
その後は外に出て、東京タワーを見に行きました。さまざまな雰囲気や小さな文化が混ざり合う東京の街を歩いていると、多文化が共存する巨大都市であることを強く感じます。現代社会はこれほどグローバルでありながら、場所によってはコミュニケーションが十分に取れていないと感じることもあります。だからこそ、もっとお互いに理解し合い、伝え合うことができれば、より生きやすくなるのではないかと感じる瞬間でもありました。
I truly hope that whilst I get better at integrating with Japanese society, our students can keep up the good work and learn English carefully, to be able to not only understand others, but communicate their thoughts too and experience the world around for themselves. That’s my hope as a teacher, going into the new school year.
新しい学年を迎えるにあたって、私たちの生徒たちにも、日本社会に適応していくだけでなく、英語をしっかりと学び続けることで、相手を理解するだけでなく、自分の考えも伝えられるようになり、自分自身の力で世界を広げていってほしい、それが教師としての私の想いです。
Let’s all work hard this coming year and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone in April!
